Had a great visit to butterfly world, we even returned later on in the week we enjoyed it that much. This was mainly due to the staff member Ryan who was very friendly and knowledgeable. He let us hold the snakes and spiders and even convinced my mother in law to let her have her own one as a pet. He is an asset to the business.

We visited Butterfly World with our family (an infant and a toddler) and had a wonderful time. I expected to be there for an hour or so but we were there for about 2.5 hours until closing. The staff have interactive talks and opportunities to handle mini beasts and feed the fish. We’d missed the mini beasts but the staff showed us around anyway. Ryan in particular went above and beyond - he was knowledgeable about the animals, friendly and professional, and also joked with our family and helped us take photos. There is a cafe and garden centre and small play area. A perfect activity for a rainy day.

Very limited sets of butterflies are available, and some might give a good pose too with you too. Many Koi fish in different ponds can be seen. Lastly there was an helpful staff who is taking care of snakes and he was kind enough for us to touch and carry the snakes which was great experience.

Butterfly World Isle of Wight could be a fantastic All-Weather attraction. I've tried to be balanced in this review. The butterflies we did see are all very beautiful and there seems there could be a good variety of species to see, sadly on our visit we were able to only see the pictured ones - this was reflected in a reduced entry of £5, due to the cool weather? However, it was clear the greenhouse heating wasn't on.... The indoor garden isn't currently well-maintained and the feeder fruit was mouldy and dried out, but the few butterflies seem to be happy and healthy. There are certainly a few areas where the upkeep could improve. The plants in lots of the garden and outside are looking a bit brown/dead and could do with a good watering/dust. There were also a good few cobwebs and easily fixed maintenance bits around the place, which could be cleaned up. There was evidence of some new planting and paint so this must be aware to the owners. There was also a mix of modern signage and retro faded signage so another sign of an update happening. There was also animal handling etc but at very spread out times that we couldn't have kept entertained to wait for. In summary, if you do visit the place before the summer, even though it seems as though maintenance is underway even a reduced £5 each to see a handful of butterflies is too much. I would be interested to see if the place improves fully for the summer, as it has the potential to be a great attraction. I would also like to add that the listing states that the place is closed, but it is actually open. We went today and it was open as we had seen on their Facebook page.

We enjoyed visiting the butterfly world. They have plenty of parking spaces and disability parking near the entrance is also available. There are no steps or stairs which makes it wheelchair and buggy friendly. The man who did the talks about mini beasts, butterflies and koi fishes is great and very knowledgeable. You get to touch snakes and spiders during the mini beast talk and feed the koi fishes with a bottle attached to a stick which is great fun for kids. If your child is learning about the lifecycle of a butterfly, I highly recommend this as you get to see all stages of the lifecycle there. Inside the enclosure it’s very hot and humid like a tropical rainforest. So I recommend bringing a drink with you and a portable little fan especially if you have little ones. The best part is when you visit you get a free visit to return within 7 days with your ticket.
